2025 CUMT International Symposium on Smart Cityand Disaster Risk Reduction

On 5-7 December 2025, the China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT) organized the 2025 International Symposium on Smart City and Disaster Risk Reduction in partnership with the International Society for Mine Surveying and other academic partners, and in collaboration with UNDRR. The event took place in Xuzhou, China, and brought together more than 370 participants from the academic community, national and local governments and civil society actors in China and 20 other countries to exchange practical experience and discuss innovative solutions for urban resilience through smart technologies and effective governance. Joining remotely, UNDRR ONEA & GETl provided opening remarks, introduced MCR2030 and shared key progress and priorities for locally-led disaster risk reduction. Ulsan Research Institute from ROK joined the event and shared the resilience strategies of Ulsan Metropolitan City, a MCR2030 Resilience Hub. As the main outcome of the Symposium, all participants signed the Xuzhou Consensus on International Cooperation for Smart Cities and Disaster Risk Reduction, which proposes the establishment of a shared academic exchange network and platform and regular exchanges and training programmes to promote technology advancement for DRR.
